Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) is a psychiatric disorder marked by extreme perfectionism, orderliness, and self-control that leads to functional difficulties in life. Despite having a similar name to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), the two conditions have different etiologies, symptoms, and treatments. The origin of OCPD is complex and involves genetic, environmental, and psychological factors. The diagnosis of OCPD is made using clinical assessments based on the 5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V-TR), which offers both categorical and dimensional diagnostic models for a nuanced approach. OCPD can severely impact multiple aspects of life, underscoring the need for early intervention and interprofessional care. This activity reviews the evaluation and potential treatment considerations of OCPD and highlights the role of the interprofessional team in evaluating and treating patients with this condition.
