This session will review the relationship and underlying mechanisms between obesity and cardiovascular disease with attention to the individual variability between BMI and CV risk. While obesity increases the risk of having a major adverse cardiovascular event, excess adiposity also seems to confer some protective benefits known as the obesity paradox, further complicating the relationship between obesity and CVD. As a result, patients with obesity need a patient-centered approach to managing both CV risk and CVD.
