Health inequities in oral health care significantly impact underserved and minority populations, leading to disparities in diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes. Studies have shown that racial and ethnic minorities often receive lower quality dental care, face higher rates of oral diseases, and have less access to preventive services compared to their White counterparts. Additionally, systemic issues such as a lack of culturally competent care and socioeconomic challenges further exacerbate these disparities. In this CME Outfitters Snack, part of a collection on health equity, expert faculty will explore strategies to improve health equity in oral health care. The focus will be on understanding and addressing the upstream, midstream, and downstream factors contributing to these disparities, such as implicit bias, socioeconomic status, and lack of access to preventive care. Learners will gain actionable strategies to promote equitable oral health care, including the use of interprofessional collaboration, culturally competent care, and innovative technologies like smartphone applications to improve care utilization among underserved populations. These strategies aim to enhance diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes for marginalized groups, fostering a more equitable oral health care system.
