Orbital Solitary Fibrous Tumor

Orbital solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare soft tissue tumors composed of spindle-shaped cells. Orbital SFTs are most commonly benign, slow-growing neoplasms best treated with en bloc surgical excision. They may recur if incompletely resected. Orbital SFTs may acquire malignant features but rarely metastasize. Orbital SFTs are most commonly unilateral and present with proptosis, with or without visual changes and extraocular muscle impairment. This activity reviews the etiology, epidemiology, histopathology, proposed pathogenesis, evaluation, and management of orbital STs and highlights the role of the interprofessional team in caring for patients with this rare orbital neoplasm.
