Patients with Opioid Use Disorders: Identification, Treatment, and Management of Co-occurring Pain

Free for MSSNY members; $50 for non-members. Pain Management. Can be used towards the eight hours of education required for the MATE Act. This course, taken in conjunction with the other two “Pain Management, Palliative Care and Addiction Courses” offered at cme.mssny.org, fulfills NYS requirements that prescribers licensed in New York to treat humans and who have a DEA registration number to prescribe controlled substances, as well as medical residents who prescribe controlled substances under a facility DEA registration number, are required to complete at least three (3) hours of course work or training in pain management, palliative care, and addiction. The course work or training must be completed once every three years, and an attestation confirming completion made to the NYS Department of Health. ** Educational Objectives: * Describe the potential for addiction, patient screening, diagnosis and subsequent treatment or referral * Recommend tools to assist in the identification of high-risk patients for whom opioids are indicated and prescribed * Describe strategies for treating pain in patients with substance use disorders.
