Clinicians do not have the systems, organizational structures, or sufficient scientific evidence in place to effectively prescribe parks or outdoor experiences to their patients. There are clear examples of success in this arena to share with the clinical community that could provide support for a shift in their practices to promote parks/public lands and green space as a health resources for their patients. The purpose of this recorded, knowledge-based webinar is to educate clinicians on the potential for public lands, and exposure to outdoor spaces to serve as a health resource for our Veterans and their families. Participants will learn about the history of health promotion and disease prevention in National Parks and about promising practices in parks within the National Park Service to promote and advance health with a particular focus on doctor/clinical-led programs. This presentation will provide an understanding of the history, the opportunities and experience in the past and examples of promising practices for understanding regarding the potential in the future. Recommendations provided in this presentation, if supported, could provide tremendous opportunity for change. The speaker will offer recommendations on the next steps needed to ensure these practices can achieve their full potential to address the most significant health concerns facing the veteran populations. This session is appropriate for interprofessional healthcare teams.
