Buprenorphine is an opioid partial agonist that is effective for many in the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD). Similarly to methadone, buprenorphine is a controlled substance and has the potential for misuse and diversion. However, unlike methadone, it is less likely to lead to overdose unless combined with other sedatives. This program will provide an array of background and clinical information concerning the pharmacological use of buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid addiction. At the conclusion of this course, participants will have a working knowledge of the following: Overview of Office-Based Treatment of Substance Use Disorders Review of Opioids and Treatment of Opioid Dependence Introduction to Buprenorphine/Naloxone Special Aspects of the Treatment of Substance Use Disorders Special Treatment Populations and the Use of Buprenorphine Clinical Uses of Buprenorphine Overview: Opioid Dependence Treatment with Buprenorphine/Naloxone Patient Evaluation .
