The goal of this program is to improve resuscitation after traumatic injury, implementation of a whole blood system, surgical management of complicated peptic ulcer disease, outcomes of damage control surgery, and management of nutrition in intensive care unit patients. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Identify advantages of whole blood transfusion in the man-agement of trauma.
2. Compare the quality of various whole blood products.
3. Choose an operative technique for the surgical management of complicated peptic ulcer disease.
4. Consider direct peritoneal resuscitation as an adjunct in the resuscitation of patients requiring damage control surgery.
5. Implement a perioperative nutritional support plan tailored to the metabolic needs of surgical patients in the intensive care unit.
