Dehydration is a condition caused by excessive loss of body water and, to varying degrees, electrolytes. Vomiting and diarrhea are the most common causes of dehydration in children. Treating children with dehydration remains a significant global challenge, particularly in resource-limited settings. Diarrheal diseases, which often lead to severe dehydration, are a leading cause of infant mortality worldwide, particularly among children aged under 5. This burden is disproportionately higher in developing countries, where patients may have limited access to healthcare resources and preventive measures. This activity describes the etiology, pathophysiology, evaluation, prevention, and management of pediatric dehydration and highlights the importance of the interprofessional healthcare team collaborating to improve clinical outcomes. Collaboration among interprofessional health team members is crucial, especially in resource-limited countries. The WHO, in partnership with various agencies, promotes policies for safe drinking water, sanitation, and vaccination programs, while clinicians, community health workers, and pharmacists play vital roles in education, prevention, and treatment efforts.
