PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Should a parent be allowed to stay in the room? What is the ideal position for the child to be in and how should they be held? These questions and other tips and tricks to be discussed by our panel of Pediatric Otolaryngology experts to help you improve your chances of success with children in the office. In recent years many procedures are being shifted from the operating room to the office setting due to a variety of factors. The COVID-19 pandemic has only accelerated this process. Learn which procedures are being performed in the pediatric population in the office setting, how to evaluate which procedures may be reasonable for the non-Pediatric Otolaryngologist, what preparations are recommended to optimize your chances of success, and better understand the pros and cons of the office vs the OR. We will discuss shared-decision making, consent, and parental/patient preparation as well.OUTCOME OBJECTIVE 1: Learn which procedures are being performed in the office setting in pediatric patients and how to evaluate which procedures may be reasonable for non-Pediatric OtolaryngologistOUTCOME OBJECTIVE 2: Learn what preparations are recommended to optimize your chances of successOUTCOME OBJECTIVE 3: Understand the pros and cons of the office setting vs the OR in pediatric patientsBACKGROUND STATEMENT: Multiple factors are influencing the decision to move procedures to the office cost/efficiency efforts from payors, to free up OR block time, concerns re: anesthesia in children, and the impact of COVID-19.
