Nine in ten US pediatricians have experienced parental refusal of immunization, and 12% make it a policy to dismiss those families from their practices. The American Academy of Pediatrics formerly advised against pediatricians dismissing these families from their practices, but this advice has changed. This monograph reviews the ethical, public health and family education issues from a risk management standpoint in the current dilemma to dismiss or not-to-dismiss.
