Many patients report penicillin allergy, requiring use of less effective and broader spectrum alternatives, which can lead to increased morbidity and mortality. However, more than 90% of these patients can safely receive penicillins. This presentation reviews true vs false penicillin allergies, mischaracterization, and medication intolerance. Also discussed is the process of desensitization and de-labeling.
