Plantar fibromatosis, also known as Ledderhose disease, is a benign proliferative foot disorder manifesting as fibrous overgrowth of the superficial plantar aponeurosis. Ledderhose disease is diagnosed by identifying nodules within the plantar fascia’s central or medial bands. These nodules can vary in size from small pea-sized lumps to larger, more noticeable masses in the arch area. The disease is locally aggressive, leading to pain and swelling in the foot’s medial, non-weight-bearing plantar surface.
