Obesity bias and stigma remain high. Unfortunately, weight bias, stigma, and discrimination are highly evident not only in media, education, and employment, but also in healthcare. As many as half of women and 25% of men experience weight discrimination, and the internalization of these biases are associated with significant psychological and physical effects. Weight bias among healthcare providers, even if implicit, can affect quality of care, and patients affected by obesity who experience weight bias are less likely to seek healthcare. In this podcast, expert faculty will discuss strategies to minimize weight bias, stigma, and discrimination within your practice, with a focus on respectful communication and actions one can take in their clinical setting.
