Pediatricians are likely to be the first professionals who encounter the 68% of American children who have experienced trauma and have the greatest potential for early identification and response to childhood trauma. Trauma-Informed Care is fundamentally relational health care and pediatricians can support caregiver-child relationships, the context in which there can be recovery from trauma and the restoration of resilience. Many pediatricians are already using pieces of trauma-informed care with their patients and this course will give them the framework to build their capacity for trauma-informed pediatric care. Many, however, still lack knowledge and skills and ask specifically for practical strategies and tools on how to implement trauma-informed care. This course will increase awareness of trauma-informed care strategies and improve the learners understanding of how to implement it.
