PREOPERATIVE OPTIMIZATION FOR HERNIA REPAIR/RECTAL FOREIGN BODY MANAGEMENT/CARDIOGENIC SHOCK

The goal of this program is to improve optimization of patients for hernia repair, management of rectal foreign bodies, and classification of cardiogenic shock. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Explain the risks of smoking on surgical outcomes in hernia repair.
2. Cite evidence associating increased risk for complications with diabetes.
3. Compare requirements for operative intervention in foreign bodies located in the sigmoid colon vs the rectum.
4. List the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interven-tions (SCAI) classification of cardiogenic shock.
5. Cite factors characteristic of stage C in the SCAI classification system of cardiogenic shock.
