The goal of this program is to minimize risk for and treat facial nerve injury related to otologic surgeries and improve risk stratification of human papillomavirus (HPV)-positive head and neck cancers. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Assess the impact of cholesteatomas and otologic surgery on the facial nerve.
2. Implement strategies to protect the facial nerve during otologic surgery.
3. Follow a treatment algorithm for the management of facial paralysis and synkinesis.
4. Assess data on the efficacy and potential advantages of deintensified therapy for HPV-positive head and neck cancers.
5. Correlate types of HPV-positive head and neck cancers with prognosis.
