Preventing Opiate Use Disorder in the Elderly Patient: An Anesthesiologist's Perspective

The goal of this program is to reduce the risk for long-term opioid use among patients undergoing ophthalmic surgery. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to: 1. Analyze the aspiration risk in patients by evaluating the level of gastric content. 2. Appreciate the intraoperative and postoperative risk of complications in chronic opioid users. 3. Optimize the use of non-opioid alternatives for managing pain during cataract surgery.
