Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a notorious pathogen in healthcare facilities and communities. This bacteria can be asymptomatically carried by people regardless of health status, but can also cause serious, invasive infections. MRSA has been associated with higher rates of infection and mortality, and all healthcare team members play a role in preventing the spread of MRSA. This module discusses hospital and community acquired MRSA infections, the history of MRSA, transmission, treatment, and prevention. The goal of this course is to provide information about the presence of MRSA in healthcare and strategies to reduce its spread.
