PREVENTIVE PHARMACOTHERAPY FOR OLDER ADULTS/CONTROVERSIES IN INTERNAL MEDICINE

The goal of this program is to improve administration of preventive care for older patients and optimize intervention for common medical conditions. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Explain pharmacokinetic changes that affect the efficacy of commonly used medications in older adults.
2. Prescribe statins for older adults with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
3. Outline the appropriate use of calcium supplementation in older patients.
4. Consider antibiotic therapy for appropriate candidates with acute appendicitis or left-sided diverticulitis.
5. Screen patients for lung cancer.
