The US Centers for Disease Control has listed prostate cancer as causing the second highest cancer deaths among males in the US and the leading new type of cancer diagnosed among males. Out of every 100 American men, 13 will have prostate cancer in their lifetime and 2-3 will die from the disease. Controversies exist as to the use of the Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), which is the major biomarker of prostate cancer. Information on PSA testing, other diagnostic tests (biopsies, imaging), and the pros and cons of these diagnostic tests will help patients make informed decisions regarding potential treatment options. This activity includes updated information on PSA testing, the pros and cons of PSA testing, other methods currently used for diagnosing prostate cancer, and some new methods under development.
