Women have unique mental health needs including differences in the prevalence and expression of mental health disorders, treatment responses, as well as the influence of social and cultural factors. While VA clinicians are current on general mental health care issues, this training will assist staff in staying current with the distinct needs of women Veterans, which will allow for appropriate care, optimal treatment programming, and help to eliminate disparities for this patient population.
This recorded, knowledge-based virtual training will advance participants’ understanding of the challenges faced by Active-Duty Service members and Veterans who are considering or seeking abortion. It will discuss the expansion of reproductive health care access at VA. It will cover the role of mental health clinicians in assisting with pregnancy options counseling, pre-abortion mental health assessments and brief interventions, and post-abortion mental health support. This training is intended for health care teams and will focus on how multidisciplinary clinicians/interprofessional healthcare team can support mental health for affected women.
