RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS/TYMPANOSTOMY TUBE PLACEMENT/SUDDEN UNEXPLAINED INFANT DEATH

The goal of this program is to improve the management of viral respiratory infections (VRIs), recurrent otitis media in children, and prevention of sudden unexplained infant death. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Distinguish among clinical presentations of common respiratory viruses in pediatric patients.
2. Identify complications of various VRIs in children.
3. Select appropriate strategies for prophylaxis and treatment of VRIs.
4. Determine whether a child with recurrent episodes of otitis media requires tympanostomy tube placement.
5. Recognize factors that contribute to sudden unexplained infant death, including explained accidental suffocating and unknown causes.
