The goal of Grand Rounds is to enhance knowledge and competency related to important topics in the practice of clinical internal medicine. Other guidelines that are used by Grand Rounds presenters include those of the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, etc. The expert physician presenters incorporate these guidelines, plus the latest evidence-based literature, to enhance the audience’s knowledge of the latest evaluation and treatment of certain medical disorders, such as a Division of Hematology/Oncology Division Chief educating on “Cancer Treatment in the Era of Comprehensive Genomic Profiling.” All in all, the ideal state is an awareness of the most recent evidence-based information on the topic presented, maximizing medical knowledge of the audience and then also maximizing the application of that knowledge to clinical practice.
