Robotics in General Surgery/Managing Pancreatitis/Damage Control Surgery in Rural Settings

The goal of this program is to improve use of robotic surgery, management of pancreatitis, and use of damage control surgery in rural hospitals. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to: 1. Evaluate trial-based evidence regarding use of robotic assisted surgery vs laparoscopic surgery for excision of rectal cancer. 2. Analyze improvements in patient questionnaire responses following robotic-assisted vs video-assisted thyroidectomy. 3. Optimize timing of performance of fine needle aspiration in diagnosis of pancreatic infection. 4. Weigh benefits and risks of total parental nutrition vs enteral nutrition in patients with acute pancreatitis. 5. Perform damage control surgery to maximize patient out comes in rural community hospitals.
