A recent systematic review that included 72 studies found that motivational interviewing outperformed traditional advice giving in 80% of studies. With practice, time can be saved by avoiding unproductive discussions. Goals are more likely to be achieved due to improved patient engagement. We will provide our healthcare team with critical clinical and communication skills to develop and maintain a collaborative working alliance aimed at promoting health and preventing disease in our Veteran population. This will improve working alliances between veterans and their care providers to improve health outcomes. It will also help decrease health related visits to primary care and other healthcare providers. It will improve quality of patient care and increase efficiency while increasing intrinsic motivation within the patient to make and sustain healthy changes. This activity will use synchronous (i.e., live) telemedicine technology and will be knowledge based. Polling questions will be addressed throughout the presentation and attendees will complete a post activity evaluation.
