The purpose of this application based face-to-face course is to provide standardized foundational knowledge for clinical preceptors at Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS). The increase of non-medical residents (e.g., RN, pharmacy, nutrition) and VA Student Training Experience Program (VASTEP) and increased the need for facility preceptors. Staff turnover has impacted the availability of trained preceptors, increasing the risk of preceptor burnout. This initial, foundational course is expected to increase the number of trained preceptors available for our new staff, residents, and students to meet directive and accreditation requirements. This will improve the quality of training and education, ultimately improving quality outcomes, patient and staff satisfaction, and retention of those providing care to our Veterans.
