Safety and prevention strategies should be an integral part of the cytology departments management program. Moreover, with the potential of exposure to COVID, safety has become a necessary and urgent focus of the cytology department. Prevention strategies and educational tools are fundamental to operation of safe practices and wellbeing of staff. Monitoring exposure, adverse risk assessments and safety inspections should be best practices. Needle stick and potential risk of infections during adequacy procedures are a concern and safety measures and strategies need to be implemented on a consistent basis to minimize or eliminate risk. Furthermore, ergonomic challenges arise with cytology tasks of microscopic screening and other repetitive tasks. The webinar will include a didactic lecture component with illustrative tools and examples for a comprehensive safety program in cytology.
