SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for the current pandemic has been circulating in the human population for the past 2 years. The worldwide impact of this disease has been large and new variants have emerged. We have a lot yet to learn about this virus and its impact on our physiology. We do not have all of the answers, but we have begun to develop some understanding that can be applied to the current viral variant and be used as a platform upon which we can ask questions so as to better understand what we know, what we do not know and what we do not even know to ask. The purpose of this course is to summarize some of the current topics pertaining to the Omicron variant in the context of the COVID pandemic as a whole. Much of the information provided comes from small, observational studies that have yet to be validated with larger, well-controlled trials. In addition, there is a natural lag on the applicability of the data to the current and emerging variants of this virus. These limitations must be understood and kept in mind as we attempt to grow our understanding of this infection, the disease it produces and the treatments that are applied.
