Sciatica is characterized by excruciating pain and paresthesias in the sciatic nerve distribution or associated lumbosacral nerve root and can severely impact the quality of life of those affected. This course delves into the specifics of sciatica, emphasizing the importance of distinguishing this condition from other low back or radicular leg pain.Participants will learn about the sciatic nerve’s anatomy, motor and sensory functions and the critical differences between inflammatory conditions and direct compression–which have varying implications for diagnosis and treatment.This course will guide participants through effective strategies for evaluating and managing sciatica. Learners will explore the vital role of the interprofessional team in enhancing care for patients with this condition. By the end of this course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to effectively diagnose, manage, and improve the lives of patients suffering from sciatica.
