The goal of this program is to improve outcomes of ambulatory surgery using short-acting anesthetic agents. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Choose appropriate doses of short-acting anesthetics to ensure adequate duration of sensory blockade.
2. Compare advantages and disadvantages of various short-acting anesthetic agents.
3. Assess the benefits and risks of adjuncts to spinal anesthetics.
4. Minimize risk for transient neurologic symptoms following ambulatory surgery.
5. Select anesthetic agents and adjuncts with low risk for postoperative urinary retention.
