SICKLE CELL DISEASE/BARIATRIC COMPLICATIONS/HOSPITAL EVACUATIONS

The goal of this program is to improve management of sickle cell disease (SCD), approaches to complications of bariatric surgery in the emergency department, and response to events requiring hospital evacuation. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Diagnose SCD based on patient presentation.
2. Administer hydroxyurea for management of pain in SCD.
3. Differentiate complications after sleeve gastrectomy com-pared with gastric bypass surgery.
4. Optimize detection of leaks after bariatric surgery.
5. Compare hospital evacuations in events with no notice vs events with advance warning.
