Tobacco use, primarily cigarette smoking, is the leading cause of preventable disease and death in the United States. Assisting patients with smoking cessation is one of the most important tasks of clinicians, and the benefits of discontinuing smoking behavior are well established. This activity reviews the options available to assist patients in smoking cessation and addresses the role of the interprofessional team in assisting patients in discontinuing the use of tobacco.
