The Bladder: Core Clinical Ultrasound Module begins with a brief review of bladder anatomy and physiology. The course discusses normal sonographic bladder appearance and standard bladder ultrasound views in males and females. This is followed by information on artifacts commonly encountered during bladder ultrasonography, such as posterior acoustic enhancement and reverberation. Case studies are presented on multiple pathologic conditions of the bladder, including cystitis, bladder hematoma, bladder diverticulum, bladder rupture, and ureteral obstruction. Bladder volume measurement is discussed next. The course concludes with an introduction to ultrasound-guided catheterization and a summary of salient teaching points. One is able to develop the requisite cognitive task awareness and visuospatial skills required to perform sonographic evaluations of the bladder through 10 different hands-on simulation cases.
