The goal of this program is to improve management of Staphylococ cus aureus infection and patient outcomes through effective use of medications. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to: 1. Optimize use of cefazolin in patients with methicillin-sus ceptible Staphylococcus aureus infection. 2. Compare transthoracic echocardiography with transesopha geal echocardiography in diagnosis of S aureus bloodstream infection. 3. Explain the risks of ondansetron using intravenous vs oral routes. 4. Minimize risk for neurotoxicity when using cefepime. 5. Cite evidence from the SALSA trial on optimal administra tion of hypertonic saline in patients with hyponatremia.
