Education regarding the principles of antimicrobial stewardship is required by regulatory agencies such as The Joint Commission as well as a tenant of VHA Directive 1031 on Antimicrobial Stewardship. The purpose of this knowledge based, recorded activity, planned for the interprofessional heathcare team is to provide information on best practices in stewardship employed by current VAMC stewardship programs. As a result of training, clinicians will be able to select antimicrobial stewardship interventions to minimize toxicity and emergence of resistance and apply outcome and performance metrics to ensure compliance with and success of a program.
