The goal of this program is to improve the surgical management of chronic ear disease, tumors of the skull base, and the diagnosis and management of ankyloglossia. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Weight the risks and benefits of using canal wall down mastoidectomy and mastoid obliteration for the management of chronic ear disease.
2. Prevent complications of chronic otitis media through the use of appropriate surgical approaches to the middle ear.
3. Identify patients with tumors of the skull base in whom the standard middle fossa approach is indicated.
4. Recognize the advantages of the extended middle fossa approach for the management of tumors at the skull base.
5. Employ evidence-based strategies for treating ankyloglossia.
