Surgical Site Infections: Building a Bundle for Prevention

Surgical Site Infections: Building a Bundle for Prevention

Surgical site infections (SSIs) are a recognized cause of morbidity and even mortality following surgical procedures. SSIs have also shown to increase readmission rates, length of stay and costs for patients. While the national rate of SSI has decreased to about 2% to 3% for clean cases, there is still an estimated 40% to 60% of these infections that are preventable. This educational activity will review the latest SSI prevention guidelines and how to develop a bundled intervention to reduce surgical site infections in your organization.
