Tapia syndrome is a rare disease characterized by concurrent unilateral paralysis of the hypoglossal and recurrent laryngeal nerves. The injury mechanism is closely related to airway manipulation, leading to direct compression or excessive stretch of the nerves. Diagnosis is made through a process of exclusion and can be challenging for clinicians due to its relative infrequency. Treatment is determined by the underlying cause and includes conservative and surgical interventions. Corticosteroids may be administered, depending on the patient’s comorbidities and the condition’s etiology and severity. Supportive treatment and rehabilitation are the management cornerstones. This activity for healthcare professionals is designed to enhance learners’ competence in evaluating and managing Tapia syndrome. Participants gain a deeper understanding of the condition’s etiology and pathophysiology and the best practices regarding diagnosis and treatment. Enhanced proficiency enables effective collaboration within interdisciplinary teams caring for patients with this condition.
