1. Determine which clinical situations are appropriate, and inappropriate, for use of temporary mechanical circulatory support (MCS).
2. Compare the unique features of temporary MCS devices, including anatomical placement, blood flow (from where to where), and hemodynamic consequences.
3. Determine correct placement of MCS devices using imaging data.
4. Master interpretation of intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) monitor data.
5. Master interpretation of Impella® monitor data.
6. Manage common complications of IABP and Impella®.
7. Outline the physiologic principles behind the TandemHeart® device.
8. Outline the physiologic principles behind extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
