1. Identify factors that contribute to the misuse of opioids.
2. Optimize opioid dosing and postoperative pain care.
3. Recognize the perioperative consequences of the opioid crisis.
4. Counsel patients about current treatments for opioid use disorder and acute pain.
5. Maintain buprenorphine treatment in the perioperative setting.
