This inaugural event in the National Health Equity Grand Rounds Series will highlight the root causes of present-day health inequities by tracing the historical and contemporary social, economic, political, geographic, and environmental forces that shape opportunity for health in the U.S. Keynote speaker Dr. Harriet Washington, in conversation with AMA President Dr. Jack Resneck, Jr., will explore the shameful history of U.S. colonialism and discuss the intersecting systems of hierarchy and power that ensure the continued dominance of a privileged few today. The panel discussion that follows will feature Dr. Rupa Marya, Mr. Randall Duchesneau, and Dr. David Ansell, who will explore the ways intersecting forms of discrimination operate, and what we can do to advance equity in health care both as individuals and collectively.
