Zika is a mosquito-borne viral infection and is the most recent arbovirus. The virus poses a significant health threat worldwide. The virus is neurotropic and in the same class as the dengue and West Nile viruses. It has been identified as the cause of congenital Zika syndrome, which leads to microcephaly and other congenital abnormalities in the fetus. The virus can trigger Guillain-Barré syndrome and other neurological diseases in adults. This course will improve awareness of the Zika virus for healthcare professionals. The course will also review the treatment, prevention, and handling of the Zika virus.
