THYROID DISORDERS/TEEN DEPRESSION

The goal of this program is to improve diagnosis and management of thyroid disorders and to improve screening, diagnosis, and management of depression in adolescents. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Identify common signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.
2. Interpret results of serum tests and functional scans to diagnose thyroid pathology.
3. Perform a diagnostic workup for a patient with a thyroid nodule.
4. Use screening tools to evaluate adolescents for depression in an office-based setting.
5. Develop strategies for initial and ongoing management of depression in adolescents.
