Traumatic aortic injuries encompass a spectrum of potentially life-threatening conditions resulting from blunt or penetrating trauma to the aorta. Prompt recognition and management of these vascular injuries are essential to prevent catastrophic complications such as hemorrhage, aortic rupture, organ ischemia, or death. Treatment strategies are dictated by the severity of the aortic injury and the hemodynamic stability of the patient; strategies include open surgical repair, endovascular stent graft placement, or conservative management. However, traumatic aortic injuries continue to have high morbidity and mortality rates. The activity for healthcare professionals reviews the etiology, epidemiology, pathophysiology, evaluation, grading system, management strategies, and complications of blunt and penetrating traumatic aortic injuries. The activity also highlights the critical role of the interprofessional team in improving short- and long-term outcomes for patients with these potentially devastating vascular injuries.
