This course reviews the 2019 ASCCP Risk-Based Management Consensus Guidelines for Abnormal Cervical Cancer Screening Tests and Cancer Precursors. Faculty discuss the risk-based approach for management of abnormal Pap and HPV test results and explain the foundational science behind the guidelines, including the potential benefits of focusing resources on high-risk patients while reducing invasive procedures in low-risk patients. Research centered on implementation of risk-based screening and how to distinguish patients requiring immediate evaluation from those who can be safely followed in 1 year or more is presented. Tools and resources including identification of common case presentation and sample scripts to help facilitate conversations with patients, are provided.
