The goal of this program is to improve the management of thyroid nodules and primary hyperparathyroidism. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. List the indications for fine-needle biopsy of thyroid nodules.
2. Determine whether a patient with a thyroid nodule would benefit from molecular testing.
3. Specify the role of molecular testing in the prognosis of thyroid cancer.
4. Identify patients with primary hyperparathyroidism in whom a surgical approach is appropriate.
5. Choose appropriate diagnostic studies in patients for whom surgical resection is being considered for primary hyperparathyroidism.
