This panel is the 5th annual edition sponsored by the General Otolaryngology and Sleep Education Committee reviewing the medical evidence in sleep surgery from the past year. Sleep Surgery is a rapidly expanding field in otolaryngology as evident by the exponential increase in publications over the last decade. In last year alone, there were over 1000 publications in a PubMed search of “sleep apnea surgery” with over 7000 in the last decade. It can be challenging for any clinician to absorb this volume of information and focus on the most clinically relevant literature. This program is intended to provide a comprehensive review of the most impactful and significant manuscripts published this past year in the field of adult and pediatric sleep surgery focusing on high evidence trials and systematic reviews. The panel will review articles organized around regional therapies including palate surgery, tonsillectomy, hypopharyngeal procedures and pediatric therapies. There will also be a review of evidence based postoperative care as well as diagnostic techniques including drug-induced sleep endoscopy. Being the 5th anniversary of the panel, we plan to do a meta-review of major articles over the last 5 years.
