Despite advances in immunosuppressive therapy that have greatly extended survival for kidney graft recipients, challenges related to long-term implementation remain. Use of immunosuppressants is limited by their narrow therapeutic index, large intra- and inter-individual variability in pharmacokinetics, and drug-related toxicity, rendering selection of the optimal treatment path challenging. Balancing the risks of graft rejection with the consequences of drug-related toxicities remains a primary challenge among health care practitioners (HCPs) managing kidney transplant recipients, particularly in the long-term maintenance setting. In this live CME Outfitters Grand Rounds series entitled, Versatility of Therapeutic uses of Costimulation Blockade in Kidney Transplantation, expert faculty will discuss strategies for identifying optimal immunosuppressive regimens, developing individualized management plans for patients who fail initial immunosuppressive therapy, and counseling patients with renal transplant on long-term immunosuppressive therapy.
