The goal of this program is to improve management of vestibular schwannoma and oropharyngeal carcinoma, and promote further research into the causes of hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:
1. Recognize trends in the prevalence and natural history of vestibular schwannoma.
2. Compare the outcomes of treatment vs observation for patients with vestibular schwannomas.
3. Choose between definitive surgery and definitive chemoradiotherapy for a given patient with human papillomavirus (HPV)-positive oropharyngeal carcinoma.
4. Consider surgical de-escalation protocols for select patients with HPV-positive oropharyngeal carcinoma.
5. Assess the role of HPV in the development of hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma.
